Over the Plowed Field

Acrylic on panel, 8×8″ $495.00

This makes me think of a soul coming in fast to incarnate. So what’s with the plowed fields?

We’re all coming in over fields others have plowed, for as far back as there has been humanity, and longer. The old saying is “we stand on the shoulders of giants.” And why are we coming in so fast like a jet landing? Well who wouldn’t be eager to be coming in to this amazing life that others have given their hearts, souls and bodies for?

And guess what: we get to be the next generation of giants for the ones who come after us.

The Other Side: Almost There

Acrylic on Panel 8×8″

I thought about calling this “Fire at the Cotton Candy Works” but that wasn’t quite as evocative.

Part of the Journey

Acrylic on canvas, 24×18″

You know, I’ve always loved train rides. Not that I’ve been on a train any time in my adult life, but still. I think they’re a beautiful way to travel.

You get to enjoy the journey. You get to see the country at a speed that you can appreciate the view. Which is what this painting reminded me of.

We can get so caught up in speed and the destination that it’s really easy to miss the beauty of each part of the journey.

And each part of the journey has gifts for us.

The Other Side of the Road

Acrylic on canvas, 14×11″

The Other Side of the Road

Looks pleasant enough over there, but are you willing to do what it takes to get there?

First you have to go through the red hot lava field. The good news is, there’s water on the other side of the lava. But then you’ll have to cross the water. Then if you manage to gain the opposite shore, there’s that road.

Now, here’s the tricky part. You see, the road is very pretty, you get a great close up view of what lies beyond, plus it’s a good way to assess where you’ve come from and how much you’ve accomplished. Which is considerable!

But it’s the road of temptation, it’s smooth and flat, and easy. And it’s really the greatest obstacle you’ll face, because this time it’s from within. You could spend the rest of your time happily going back and forth just sightseeing and congratulating yourself on your achievement. And that’s where your journey would stop.

But if you want to discover what lies beyond, you’ll have to let go of the path of comfort and prepare to take on the jungle and the terrain. Into terra incognita

The hero’s journey.

What say you, hero?

Boulevard of Trees

Boulevard of Trees

Well, that’s what the humans call them.

To the trees, it’s just family. Blood brothers and sisters. Like the fingers of a hand they all appear separate, but they’re really more like one organism, connected through the root system.

Yet of course they’re both, a stately procession of beautiful trees, and a family unit, and we can hold both those ideas in our minds at the same time. And appreciate our plant cousins even more because of it.

White Cloud

Acrylic on canvas, 12×12″

White Cloud

You’d think a cloud is just a loose mass of water vapor, and you’d be right as far as that goes. But might it have consciousness? Is it aware in any sense?

Is it possible that clouds, as insubstantial and ephemeral as they are, are still capable of interacting with us, with our thoughts and our deep questions? Could they be a tool of the divine mind? Well — isn’t everything?

Shortly after my father crossed over to the spirit world, I was sitting on the back porch of his house, and I looked up and noticed a cloud. A cloud that was unmistakably the profile of my father’s face. At the same time I heard his voice in my mind saying “you’ll just have to carry on.” Which does sound like the kind of thing he would say.

Everything can speak to you if you’re open to receive it.

Stepping Stones

Acrylic on canvas, 12×12″

Sometimes we get so impatient because we want to get from here to there right away. But more often than not, our journey is a series of small steps, deliberately and carefully navigated over the unknown depths.

Sure, some of us can dive in and just swim to the other shore. But not me. I need stepping stones.

Thankfully, those who have gone before us have placed some there for us. The journey is still ours to walk mindfully, but thanks to others we have a path. A path where perhaps we can add a stepping stone or two for those who come after us.

River Rocks

12’x12″ Acrylic on canvas

Well of course the river rocks! But also of course I’m talking about the rocks in the river. Which also rock, because as you can see, they’re living rocks. Everything is energy, everything has life and awareness, even though we might not recognize it as such.

Each rock is its own energy system. Every river is its own energy system. Then the river and the rocks together are a higher energy system. Much like the cells in our body are individual energy systems, as are the more complex tissues, on to our organs, and finally our entire human self.

It’s worth keeping in mind that all of reality is an infinitely nested series of energies with ever more complex and beautiful types of life and awareness.

Lavender Hill

At 31″x8″ this is the largest dot painting so far. It’s also the heaviest.

It’s painted on a wooden table leaf. The back of this painting still has the marks and screw holes from the hinges as well as whatever other scars it has picked up in its life.
