Searching For The Key

Acrylic on canvas panel, 16×20″

Sometimes the key comes in a form you’re not expecting. It may not look like your idea of what a key is supposed to look like.

The shaft of light illuminating the single flower was a last-minute addition. Which happens to me all the time. I’ve come to trust those inspirations that come after the painting is well under way.

Watchers (The Walk of Life)

16×20″ Acrylic on canvas panel

“The Walk of Life” isn’t a formal part of the title, it’s what happens when I can’t decide between two titles. I like that “Watchers” is a little more open ended, and I feel like maybe “The Walk of Life” is a little too specific, limiting the viewer’s imagination a bit too much.

Anyway, I hope that it gives you food for thought as it does me. This series has been really interesting in that the paintings help me understand what I’m thinking and feeling. It’s like I have a vague idea of what I’m thinking, but seeing it laid out in paint frees the thoughts from the literalness and the constraint of words.

You can own this painting for what it’s worth to you! (Also known as Pay What You Want.)

5×7″ Oil on canvas board

This is from oh, maybe a couple of months ago. I still have a bunch of these little ones, but I particularly like this one. Very beachy and peaceful.

Windermere

12×12″ oil on canvas

I like the art deco-ish feel of these. Kind of stained glass also, no?

It doesn’t look anything like my recent portrait paintings, but that’s characteristic of the way I work. I jump around styles to keep from getting bored with painting.

All my work, past present and future can be had on a Pay What You Will basis. You decide what it’s worth to you and then we just make it happen!

Sarah Winnemecca, American Hero

10×10″ Oil on watercolor paper

Back to my American Heroes series!

Sarah Winnemucca was an amazing woman at a time when women and Native Americans were given little respect. So much more than I can relate here. Try this link from the Nevada Women’s History Project for a good overview of her remarkable life.

Radnorshire

Oil on canvas, 12×9″ $335.00 USD

Well, this is the second oil dot painting. I’m still very much figuring out these paints, but the results sure are pretty!

Speaking of figuring the paints out, it’s been at least a couple of weeks since I finished this, and although the paint is dry to the touch, it’s still a bit tacky, so not quite ready to ship yet. I used a mix of fast drying alkyd oils and conventional oils.

Tekakwitha and I both have a real fascination with the UK (and Irish) countryside, and the names of these paintings reflect that. Not that these are any sort of literal representation of the locations they’re named for. It’s more of just a feel and homage to these beautiful lands.

More UK inspired titles coming up!

Aberdeen Shire

Oil on canvas board, 12×9″

This is the first dot painting in oils for me. It’s quite the challenge getting the oils to a consistency that will work with this technique. Also, I have to wait a few days between layers where I put one set of dots on top of another. Still, I think the colors are a bit more intense, but maybe it’s just wishful thinking.

West Midlands

Acrylic on 140 lb watercolor paper

Experimenting with these on watercolor paper. It’s a good surface to paint on, and it’s very easy to ship. These are available for about half of what I can offer these for on canvas.

Oasis

“Oasis” 8×10″ Acrylic on paper

I was thinking about how an oasis can be a physical oasis, but also a spiritual oasis. Maybe this is one of those power spots or a convergence of ley lines.
I know I’ve sometimes felt the energy in these places — I wonder if any of y’all have?
I’d love to hear your experiences.
