Pondering

I wonder what’s going on here. Is this something they just stumbled upon? Does it belong to someone else or to them? Is it a gift, it does look attractive and pretty with all those colors. Or maybe it’s something more like a Trojan Horse… hmmm. Can’t be too careful with this love stuff, y’know.

The Last of the Red Hot Lovers

Acrylic on canvas panel 16×20”

Even in a world of near total oppression, there are cracks in the ranks of the oppressors. The fire of love is not extinguished, and the fire of one lover can be enough to warm a stone heart.

Love can be driven underground for a time but it can never be completely extinguished.

What Was

Acrylic on canvas panel 16×20”

Are your past experiences holding back your present life? I for one, can’t actually forget those things. In fact they come up in my thoughts regularly, and I do have to respect those parts of my experience and the marks they’ve left on me.

But I’ve learned to not let the stupid thoughts and feelings mess up what I’ve got going and how I’m moving toward.

So. What was, was. Past tense. Not present. Not future. And if the past does spill over into the present, then that becomes the past again, and… etc.

Missing You

Missing You
Acrylic on canvas panel 16×20”

I was thinking of the war in Ukraine as I was painting this. It didn’t start out that way, though. Originally there was going to be a suburban house in the background, yes the heart pierced with an arrow, but more of a lovers apart theme. But as I painted, this is what it wanted to be.

Holding On

Better the pain you know than the love you don’t. Even when you’re surrounded by love.

The Weatherman

Another one that developed as I worked on it. The road and the stark deep shadows were last minute additions, and I think they absolutely make this painting.

Dos Amantes Y Uno Que No/Two Lovers and One Not

It’s an interracial situation in the painting, but it really stands for any persecuted lovers.

Searching For The Key

Acrylic on canvas panel, 16×20″

Sometimes the key comes in a form you’re not expecting. It may not look like your idea of what a key is supposed to look like.

The shaft of light illuminating the single flower was a last-minute addition. Which happens to me all the time. I’ve come to trust those inspirations that come after the painting is well under way.
