Oasis

“Oasis” 8×10″ Acrylic on paper

I was thinking about how an oasis can be a physical oasis, but also a spiritual oasis. Maybe this is one of those power spots or a convergence of ley lines.
I know I’ve sometimes felt the energy in these places — I wonder if any of y’all have?
I’d love to hear your experiences.

Purple Majesty

Acrylic on paper, 8×10” $285.00

My paintings are about the reality behind what we see with our eyes. The plants, the river, the mountains, the clouds, the reflection of the clouds in the water and even us and our thoughts and dreams. Everything is energy, interconnected in a vast cosmic dance of consciousness and all is one.

Round the Bend

Round the Bend: Acrylic on paper, $250.00

What’s round that bend? Looks like a magical place to me. Of course every place can be magical though — if you choose to find the magic in it.

On The Other Side Of The Fire

Acrylic on canvas board 11×14″

Sometimes it’s true that the promised land, or at least some pretty good things lie on the other side of the fire. By which I mean something difficult or unpleasant that we go through. It’s happened to us many times.

One of the more memorable ones was how we arrived at a home that is just wonderful for us. Three years ago we were evicted from our rental of 17 years. We felt betrayed, we were hurt and angry. We scrambled to find another place, and moved. That didn’t work out well, and after six months we broke the lease and forfeited our security deposit.

But we found the home we’re in now, we were able to afford buying it, and it’s the nicest place we’ve lived in for over 25 years. There’s studio space for both of us, central air, and on and on. It sure seemed like we were going through the fire with all the emotional turmoil, having to move twice in six months, moving to a different state, with all the red tape that entailed.

But if we hadn’t been evicted and decided to look for a new place after our first forced move the home we’re in now wouldn’t have been up for sale at a price we could afford at exactly the time we needed it.

Now this isn’t pollyanna, I know sometimes the fire destroys. But so often it’s just clearing out the old to make way for something better than we thought possible.

Love Awaits

love-awaitsNot passively, but alive, like a determined weed, growing where we least expect it to thrive. Of course it’s only a weed as long as we reject it. Once we embrace it, we can see that it’s this amazing strong beautiful flower that spreads faster than dandelions on a suburban lawn.

Oh yeah, we reject it because we think we’re not worthy of it, or we think it hurt us before so it’s most likely going to hurt as again, or a thousand other reasons.

Dumb.

Dumb dumb dumb.

Understandable, but really… dumb.

The thing is, love doesn’t actually care about any of that. Because when we get over the dumb, it’ll still be there.

Waiting.

And even if we never get over the dumb, it’ll still be there. Growing in the deep waters of our soul.

Waiting.

You picking up on a pattern here?

They Come Out at Night

they-come-out-at-nightOf course they do. But like the stars, it’s more that they’re just harder to see in the daytime.

Fairies? Elementals, orbs, spirits, birds with flashlights? Well, probably not that.

Those familiar with them tell how they tend to exhibit disconcertingly intelligent, even playful, behavior too which makes them even more fascinating. Or weird, depending on how you look at it.

Which of course brings us to Shakespeare, who wrote “there are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

Solid advice if you ask me. Which of course you didn’t, but so what?

Good ol’ Shakespeare.

The Love Within

the-love-within

Love, any kind of love. Love of nature, romantic love, love of others, of ideas, of life itself.

Just love.

And although love is an energy, and the very basis of the Universe, love always comes to be known from within.

Love of course has both a cold side and a dark side. And from the place where those two meet, there is growth, there is new life.

White Feather

white-feather

Steely determination. Implacable dignity.

And a refusal to be homogenized, defined or commodified by the forces of a passing moment in history regardless of its seeming might.

True to herself.

Beauty in strength.

Still here.

Orange Angel

orange-angelAngels can of course come in all colors. Especially colors we don’t have physical senses for, which works out well since we don’t see them with our physical senses.

Angels can appear without blocking out what the physical eyes are seeing, but still with a strong visual element, almost like the mind is tuning into two separate frequencies at the same time. So you can be driving, for example, and still be visually aware of the presence of angels without your driving safety being compromised.

Of course angels, being pure spirit, don’t have a literal physical appearance, but what we see somehow corresponds in some fundamental ways to their essence. When we see into spirit, what we’re seeing is more like an analogy, a metaphor that helps our human minds interface with spirit.

So here we have the Orange Angel with wings in her hair (why not?) and a calm sideways look as if she’s just become aware that we can see her.

Guess she wasn’t expecting that.
