Searching For The Key

Acrylic on canvas panel, 16×20″

Sometimes the key comes in a form you’re not expecting. It may not look like your idea of what a key is supposed to look like.

The shaft of light illuminating the single flower was a last-minute addition. Which happens to me all the time. I’ve come to trust those inspirations that come after the painting is well under way.

Questions of the Heart

16×20” Acrylic on canvas panel

A thorny heart. And although it kind of looks like juggling, you don’t juggle just one thing, do you? More like a hot potato maybe.

It’s funny how paintings evolve. The woman on the other side of the wall (and the wall itself) were not part of the original sketch. Neither was the starry sky he’s standing in/on. But that’s the way it’s been working lately, and it seems like a good process.

You can own this painting for what it’s worth to you! (Also known as Pay What You Want.) Just shoot me an offer and we’ll make it happen.

Did you know? You don’t have to be a Medici or Borgia to be a patron of the arts. As little as a dollar a month is all it takes to join me on Patreon (www.patreon.com/spyderwebb) and help keep me in paints and canvas and brushes!

The Birth of Consciousness

Acrylic on panel 8×8″. $495.00

Another riff on early times. Or maybe current times also. So let’s get (meta)physical:

At some point, consciousness, or at least individual consciousness, broke free of the Great Consciousness. Downloaded from the Cloud, and went on its merry way.

Except — as we know, when you download something from the Cloud, it’s still in the cloud.

Just sayin’…….

Escape From the Madness of Sleep

Acrylic on canvas, 18×24″

Well it sure feels like madness anyway. It used to be called “the little death” but I think it’s more accurately a form of nightly insanity.

Oh I know all the supposed wonderful things about dreams giving you great insight, and lucid dreaming and all, but with rare (very rare) exceptions, my experience has been that sleep (at least the dreaming portion) is a mental state to be escaped quickly and thankfully.

Not that dreams are always bad, because those are also the rare exceptions. But still, dreams are just nuts in a way I can’t wrap my head around. And honestly, it’s never proved to be worth the effort.

Just my experience, anyway. How ’bout you?

Watchful

watchful

Just watchful. Relaxed. Alert.

And ready. Definitely ready.

But it may not be what you think. This is a modern man at a 21st century powwow, thoroughly living in the now world, and at the same time standing in oneness with his ancestors.

Who also lived in their now world.

Standing as someone who refuses to be co-opted by the current madness.

Not trendy, though occasionally trending.

Knowing deeply who he is, a two legged creature among the four leggeds, the sky beings, those who fly and those who crawl or swim, the star beings, and the tall ones, those whose lives are measured in millennia, and those whose lives flash like a spark before they’re gone.

Relaxed. Alert.

Alive.

Night Blooms

night-blooms

So few flowers bloom at night, it’s almost an oxymoron. But some do, and they’re all the more precious because of it.

In many ways, we are now in a time of darkness in our world, perhaps entering an even darker time. There have been others, some much worse, and the cusp we are now on could actually go either way.

The flowers can’t hold back the darkness. But they can bring life and beauty to the darkness. Those who do, do a great service to us all. They remind us to hold on until the dawn.

And there is always a dawn.

Pushing Through the Roses

Pushing Through the Roses FAA

Pushing Through the Roses

They’re not so pretty, all by themselves, although they do have a beauty of their own. Not so flashy. Not so showy.

Pushy?

Well, yes. But in a way that actually complements the roses, and makes them both more than either alone. What they do seem to have is a solid self confidence. They’re confident in their plainness. Confident that it’s just them being completely themselves that makes everything better.

Assertiveness training through flower arranging. Who’da thunk?
