In many Native American traditions the eagle, flying the highest, carries the peoples’ prayers to the Creator.

This was a first try at a bald eagle commission. I say first try, because the client purchased a bear portrait (Saint Grizz) and asked for a bald eagle in the same style. While I’m really happy with this one, the style really didn’t match as closely as it should have, so I painted another one. I’ll post that completed eagle next week along with the earlier bear portrait.

Sarah Winnemucca was an amazing woman at a time when women and Native Americans were given little respect. So much more than I can relate here. Try this link from the Nevada Women’s History Project for a good overview of her remarkable life.
