La Parisienne

5×7″ Acrylic and acrylic markers on carved linoleum block

A bit stereotypical but she gets the Paris vibe across, donโ€™t you think? Confident, sure of herself and her culture, ready for the next baguette! You can almost imagine hearing the waves of music with Edith Piaf singing in the background somewhere.

Do you like it? If you do, imagine what fun it would be having this original artwork delivered right to your door (like where else would it get delivered?).

This is mounted linoleum, so itโ€™s a bit heavier than my recent work. The sides are painted black so you can hang it unframed, but if you want it framed, I suggest going to a professional frame shop. It will be shipped with hanging hardware attached.

All work is for sale, Pay What You Want. Seriously. I donโ€™t believe that original art should be available only to those with deep pockets. Not every art lover has deep pockets. So just tell me what price works for you. (You pay the shipping, though.๐Ÿ˜Š)

Let me expand on that a bit: It’s not that I don’t think artists shouldn’t get paid well, because of course I do. But here’s the thing — My patrons (patreon.com/spyderwebb) keep me in art supplies. Social Security keeps a roof over my head and food on the table. So I can indulge my mission of making original art accessible to those who ordinarily wouldn’t be able to afford it. That’s it! So if you can pay a high price, thank you! But if not, don’t be embarrassed to tell me what works for you, because I’d be truly glad to help you own one of my original pieces at a price that you can afford.

Shroom

7×5″ Acrylic and acrylic markers on carved linoleum block

OK, looks like weโ€™re getting a bit psychedelic here, doesnโ€™t it? Maybe it brings back some intense memories for some of you. That wasnโ€™t my intention as I started this one, but as it progressed, the colors just seemed to hark back to that vibe.

Purple Mountain

6×6โ€ Acrylic paint with acrylic markers on canvas panel

Continuing my working with the combination of paint & brushes with acrylic markers.

I like the way the river tucks behind the hill on the left.

Faraway Mountains

8×8โ€ Acrylic paint & brushes with acrylic markers on canvas panel

I like the hint of a lake in the background, with the river flowing out from it. I can just imagine the lake scene around the bend. Thereโ€™s something about that that just draws me in.

A little change in technique here: I began with acrylic paints and brushes, and finished with acrylic markers. Iโ€™m going to try a few more like this, and see if I like the results as much as I like the way this one turned out.

You know, I used to be an editorial cartoonist, thinking I could contribute a little to a change in the world through politics. But that ended up just adding negativity to the zeitgeist. And so I quit that because it felt icky.

Then I wanted to make a positive difference through religion and ministry, and I found out that worked even less well.

So now Iโ€™m just painting things that feel good and that I like to look at. And hopefully others will too. And thatโ€™s now my way of contributing positive vibes to the world. I canโ€™t change things out there, but I can make pretty things that can bring some solace and a bit of joy to people.

But of course I reserve the right to be a little more direct and blunt with my feelings with my paintings.

One Tree

8×8โ€ Acrylic markers on canvas panel

All it takes is one tree to show that life will always find a way. Even if itโ€™s on a forsaken rocky speck of an island.

Red Reflection

8×8โ€ Acrylic markers on canvas panel

A very active sky reflecting in very calm water. Continuing to learn how to put more movement and dynamic expression into an image using these markers.

Green Hills

8×8โ€ Acrylic markers on canvas panel

Maybe the distant green hills are an inspiration for the tree to grow where it’s been planted, out of the hard rock. Or maybe the tree is just asserting its independence, and thumbing its nose at the fertile landscape beyond. Either way, it’s bearing fruit. There must be a lesson here somewhere…
