Summer Breeze

20×16” Acrylic on canvas panel

I thought I’d try to make those faux linocut marks suggestive of the wind blowing through the field of grass and the trees.

Tornado

20×16” Acrylic on canvas panel

This is another one scaled up and painted from an earlier very small black and white version I did as an illustration for a publisher 20 years ago.

Looks like I’m embracing my cartoon roots more and more lately. It’s been tough fighting my urge to make things more realistic and for them to make sense. So in that regard, I’m very happy with this: not accurate realistically, but it sure gets the idea across.

Oasis

“Oasis” 8×10″ Acrylic on paper

I was thinking about how an oasis can be a physical oasis, but also a spiritual oasis. Maybe this is one of those power spots or a convergence of ley lines.
I know I’ve sometimes felt the energy in these places — I wonder if any of y’all have?
I’d love to hear your experiences.

Purple Majesty

Acrylic on paper, 8×10” $285.00

My paintings are about the reality behind what we see with our eyes. The plants, the river, the mountains, the clouds, the reflection of the clouds in the water and even us and our thoughts and dreams. Everything is energy, interconnected in a vast cosmic dance of consciousness and all is one.

Round the Bend

Round the Bend: Acrylic on paper, $250.00

What’s round that bend? Looks like a magical place to me. Of course every place can be magical though — if you choose to find the magic in it.

Autumn Waits

Acrylic on panel, 8×8″ $495.00

It’s not always about some profound metaphor or insight. Sometimes it’s enough just to feel and rejoice in the vibrance of existence.

Which of course can be pretty profound in itself.

Not to mention a lot of fun!

Saint Crying Fox

Saint Crying Fox 10x10

Acrylic on canvas, 25″x25″

The San Joaquin Kit Fox is an endangered species. Its natural habitat is the southwest United States and Northern Mexico, although it has steadily been losing habitat because of human expansion.

They’ve been listed as endangered since 1967, and in 2007 a special area was set aside for them as a protected habitat. You can think of it as a reservation for kit foxes, and like most other “reservations” it’s a fraction of their original territory, and not really enough for them to thrive and return in significant numbers.

Its numbers are dwindling, both because of human activity and because of predators. Of course the predator activity wouldn’t be such a problem if the habitat hadn’t shrunk so much.

So Saint Crying Fox has good reason to cry.

Love Awaits

love-awaitsNot passively, but alive, like a determined weed, growing where we least expect it to thrive. Of course it’s only a weed as long as we reject it. Once we embrace it, we can see that it’s this amazing strong beautiful flower that spreads faster than dandelions on a suburban lawn.

Oh yeah, we reject it because we think we’re not worthy of it, or we think it hurt us before so it’s most likely going to hurt as again, or a thousand other reasons.

Dumb.

Dumb dumb dumb.

Understandable, but really… dumb.

The thing is, love doesn’t actually care about any of that. Because when we get over the dumb, it’ll still be there.

Waiting.

And even if we never get over the dumb, it’ll still be there. Growing in the deep waters of our soul.

Waiting.
